First sporting success? Certificate from my club that I passed sailing on my own with distinction, age 11/12
Finest sporting moment? Sydney Gold
Your tip for the top: Perseverance and a love of the sport.
First Scottish/GB selection: Selected to train with Scottish senior men’s team when I was 14
How do you feel when you represent Scotland/GB: Scared, I was outclassed, still I learned a lot and just had to grunt up there didn’t seemed to be a choice.
How and why did you get involved in your sport? My dad had sailed when he was in the navy and then built a small boat that we sailed on holiday and then later at our club at Loch Ard. I enjoyed meeting my friends almost as much as the sailing.
Finest sporting moment in history? Apart from mine! There are lots but who can forget Steve Redgrave winning his 5th Gold medal in Sydney
Biggest influence? My parents initially for making it happen. Then my husband who taught me how to keep it all in perspective, it can mean too much.
Any family connections to Sport? My husband is also a sailor and very good in big boats. It’s good to have someone close who understands what you’re doing.
Toughest opponent? Margaret Matisse for Holland won silver in Sydney was tipped for Gold.

Three words that describe you: Perfectionist, determined, level headed.
Who would you most like to meet? I’ve been lucky enough to meet lots of interesting and famous people. I’m intrigued now more by people who can lead great teams and for that reason I’d like to meet Martin Johnson.
Most prized possession? My medals
Biggest passion away from your sport? My children
Favourite sport other than your own? Cycling
Top tips to relax? You need to have other thing going on in your life so It’s your results are not life and death and great friends round you who love you whatever.
Ultimate ambition: To keep enjoying and doing my best wherever life goes
Where do you see yourself in 10 year’s time? Hopefully still involved in the sport, I now race very fast catamarans; I love the speed and the danger, it’s addictive. Maybe I’ll be encouraging my children in whatever sport that they love.
