  • Date of Birth: 15/2/89

    Place of Birth: Melrose

    Current Residence: Stow

Where do you train? The tweed valley

    Nickname: RC

  • First sporting success? Probably winning the local hill race in Stow when I was really young! In Mountain biking it was when I entered my first race and finished 3rd.

Finest sporting moment? Winning the junior world championship in 2007, it was something I’d concentrated on for a long time so winning it was a huge accomplishment for me.

Your tip for the top: Always have fun, put in the hard work and aim big.

First international / ‘big time’ call-up: I was selected to represent British cycling in the European championships in 2006, I was a year younger than everyone else selected and it was my first time in the GB jersey.

How do you feel when you know you are representing your team / country? We only have one race a year where we ride for our country (world championships), and its honour to even be selected as the criteria to get into the squad is so difficult. It’s definitely a unique race and makes you feel proud to be there.

How and why did you get involved in your sport? I got a new bike for Christmas one year around the time my local trail centre (Glentress) opened up. I went to check it out and was instantly hooked. After a few years I became pretty good and my friend suggested I should do a race. Since then I haven’t stopped!

What is your favourite moment in the history of sport? Seeing Steve peat finally win the World championship in 2009 after 15 years of trying, at the age of 35 was unreal.

Who has been the biggest influence on your sporting career? Australian rider Sam Hill.

Any family connections to sport? Nope

Who has been your toughest opponent and why? Josh Bryceland was always tough to beat when we were younger but now that we’re up into Elite there are too many names to list. Everyone who races a final in the world cup is fast!

  • Three words that describe you: Fun, Positive, dedicated

Who would you most like to meet? Ama supercross rider Chad Reed

What is your most prized possession? My world championship jersey and medal.

What is your biggest passion away from sport? I’m a huge fan of American motocross and supercross.     I’ve recently bought a motocross bike myself and love to ride when I get the chance.

Favourite sport(s) other than your own? AMA motocross and supercross, bmx, rugby

Top tips to relax? Listen to some music, breathe deep and slow.

What is your ultimate ambition? To be Elite world champion.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time? Hopefully still racing and have had a successful racing career.
