First sporting success? Being selected for the Scotland U-12 Cricket team, back when Cricket was my main sport.
Finest sporting moment? Beating Wales in the 2010 European Mens Final. We were unbeaten through all 4 days of the tournament, but the final was tight and we lost a key player at the start of the 2nd half when we were only one score up. But we came together as a squad and won by 5 scores.
Your tip for the top: Always try to minimise your weaknesses but the most important thing you can have is a strength or skill like nobody else. Work on making your best talent or skill so good that no-one else can beat it.
First international / ‘big time’ call-up: 2006 European Championships – I won my first cap for Scotland in this tournament when only 18. We came 4th but I fell in love with the game at that tournament. We played in lovely sunshine, Sky Sports came to film some games and all my family were there with me.
How do you feel when you know you are representing your team / country? Calm, happy and proud because that is how you must be in International sport. However there are moments (national anthems, scoring touchdowns, seeing crowds cheering and chanting, raising trophies) where it is very emotional because you feel so privileged to be able to wear a Scotland top and do it proud. Representing your country abroad is very special as you feel like an ambassador and means so much more than winning matches or scoring touchdowns.
How and why did you get involved in your sport? I played Touch down at my local park in a social competition when I was 16. I liked Rugby but the speed and stepping involved in Touch drew me in to it and I've played it ever since. I began playing with family, both my brother and sister, in the fun leagues and then I joined a club that played more serious leagues and progressed into a selection trial for Scotland.
What is your favourite moment in the history of sport? -
Who has been the biggest influence on your sporting career? My Family. Dad taught me that Sport was an important part of my overall childhood, my Brother made me push my limits every time I played any Sport, my Sister taught me the importance of friendships and enjoyment in Sport and my Mum guides me through the emotional journey of all the ups and downs.
Any family connections to sport? My brother, David, played professional Rugby Union. My sister, Jen, plays International Touch. My sister-in-law, Susan is a great triathlete and my brother-in-law, Iain, plays with me in the Scotland Men’s Touch Team.
Who has been your toughest opponent and why? In Touch, the best opponent I have played against was Dylan Hennessey (Australia Men’s Open). In Europe, the more dangerous guy to play against is Kieran Hopkins (Wales). I also played Cricket against Eoin Morgan when in Scotland U-17s and he was incredibly good.

Three words that describe you: Confident, Passionate and open-minded
Who would you most like to meet? I’ve met my two biggest sporting idols, Lewis Hamilton (F1) and Benji Marshall (Rugby League). I think the next one on the list is Mark Cavendish (Cycling).
What is your most prized possession? My playing top from Varsity Touch in Sydney where I played for a season and played Premier Division in New South Wales, Australia. This has almost every single one of the best players in the world playing in it and I played against them in a team with some incredible friends and amazing players too.
What is your biggest passion away from sport? Expanding my horizon as much as possible. There is nothing better than experiencing another culture, playing another sport, learning another cool fact, doing another crazy experiment, seeing another weird animal or meeting another interesting person. The world is HUGE, go find out about it.
Favourite sport(s) other than your own? Formula 1, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Athletics.
Top tips to relax? To practice (every day) thinking about your most successful sporting moment, silently remembering everything about it and letting the confidence calm all your nerves.
What is your ultimate ambition? To develop Touch to a point where it is played professionally and is represented at the Olympics.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time? Still playing at the highest level (International Touch can be played all the way up to 35-40 years old), coaching a Scottish Youth Touch Team and working as a successful lawyer for a big law firm!
