    Where do you train? All over when I was playing.  Now I go for a run and to the gym every day.

    Nickname: JC

    Education: A few ‘O’ Levels.

     

  • First sporting success? My debut for Hibs at 16.

    Finest sporting moment? So many to talk about!  But my Scotland debut stands out.

    Your tip for the top:  No secret – hard work and repetition.

    First international / ‘big time’ call-up: Scotland v Saudi Arabia, 1988

    Who has been the biggest influence on your sporting career? My Dad.

    Any family connections to sport? Not professional sport.

    Who has been your toughest opponent and why? Zinedine Zidane – he was such a fantastic football player.

    How do you feel when you know you are representing your team / country? It’s the biggest accolade any sportsman can have, nothing comes close.

    How and why did you get involved in your sport? My Dad was my first coach and an avid football supporter.  From the first day I kicked a ball, I loved it.

    What is your favourite moment in the history of sport? I can still shut my eyes and remember Archie Gemmill’s goal against the Dutch at the 1978 World Cup.  That really inspired me as a kid.

     

  • Three words that describe you: Happy, healthy and determined.

    Who would you most like to meet? Nelson Mandela.

    What is your most prized possession? My family.

    What is your biggest passion away from sport? Spending time with my family.

    Favourite sport(s) other than your own?  I like playing golf, and watching rugby and athletics.

    Top tips to relax? Spending time with my family.  And the beauty of golf is that it is relaxing and challenging at the same time!

    What is your ultimate ambition? My ultimate ambition was to play for Celtic and Scotland, which I have done.  Now, it is to manage a top club.
