  •  Date of Birth: 17/06/91

    Place of Birth: Edinburgh, Scotland

    Current Residence: Aberdeen, Scotland

    Where do you train? Aberdeen

    Nickname: Jen

    Education: Dollar Academy

  • First sporting success? Winning D Class at an SSRA Grand Prix by so much that I was immediately put up to C Class and still won…

Finest sporting moment? Winning my Individual Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Your tip for the top: Just because something is the easiest option or route, doesn’t mean that it is the best one.

First international / ‘big time’ call-up: Made the Scotland Ladies Team at my first British Championships

How do you feel when you know you are representing your team / country? Mostly proud, but I also get a sense of responsibility because my behaviour will reflect on the team.

How and why did you get involved in your sport? My parents were both shooters and all I ever wanted to do was follow in their footsteps.

What is your favourite moment in the history of sport? It was before I was born but I’ve seen clips of this game and it gives me shivers – 1990, Five Nations, Scotland beat England at Murrayfield to win the Grand Slam… amazing.

Who has been the biggest influence on your sporting career? It’s a tie between my Mum and my Dad… my Mum was a massive inspiration but it’s my Dad that’s really made me into the shooter I am today…

Any family connections to sport?  See above.

Who has been your toughest opponent and why?  Myself.  Shooting is a sport where it doesn’t matter what anyone else does, it’s all on you.  You can shoot a PB or a world record-breaking score and still not win.  You can shoot a season’s worst and win.  All that matters is that you fight for every point so that at the end of the day, you can walk away saying “I did everything I could” – but that can be really hard when you’ve dropped more points in your first five shots than you did in your entire match the day before.

  • Three words that describe you: Stubborn, focused and determined.

Who would you most like to meet? Steve Redgrave

What is your most prized possession? My rifle…

What is your biggest passion away from sport? The arts.  I enjoy writing, painting, designing, fashion, make-up, hair, acting, dancing, singing… I might not be very good at all of them but I enjoy them and I love them.

Favourite sport(s) other than your own? Rugby, cycling, tennis

Top tips to relax? Headphones in, music on, eyes shut and ignore anything and everything going on around you.

What is your ultimate ambition? To win an Olympic Gold medal… although I strongly suspect that after I’ve mastered that, I’ll want more.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time? Hopefully not still living off my parents and with no life other than shooting… I think I’ll still be shooting but I do hope I’ll have more in my life than just shooting.
