Where do you train? I now train in Hawick, but I used to train in Edinburgh and Glasgow for Scotland and down at Bisham Abbey in England for Great Britain.

Finest sporting moment?
Qualifying for the World Cup in 1998 after Scotland being out of it for 12 years, and winning the Scottish League and Cup with my club, Edinburgh Ladies.

Never give up – there is no such thing as quitting.
How and why did you get involved in your sport?
I wanted to play sport and make friends.
What is your favourite moment in the history of sport?
I’m not sure of my favourite, but my most memorable was at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Derek Redmond pulled his hamstring in the 400m semi-final, but he still tried to complete the race. His Dad came onto the track to help him finish in front of hundreds of thousands of people... there were lots of tears!

What is your most prized possestion?
A teddy given to me before the Olympics, with my number and name on its jumper.
Who has been the biggest influence on your sporting career?
Lesley Miller (née Hancock) and parents’ quiet support.
Any family connections to sport?
My Dad played rugby for Jed Forest – he was captain and president. My Grandfather also played for them, and for a Scottish select team. My sister played some Scottish ‘B’ team hockey, and my nieces are international vaulters.
Who has been your toughest opponent and why?
Playing Australia – they were very fast and very skilful and never seemed to tire!
What is your biggest passion away from sport?
My family – sitting around a large table for a family meal, with Mum, brother, sisters and all the children, eating and laughing!
Favourite sport(s) other than your own?
Volleyball... and watching football.
Top tips to relax?
Reading, and riding my dydesdale horse with my daughter on her pony, Paddy!
What is your ultimate ambition?
To coach a young athlete to senior international level.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
Coaching and passing on lots of tips, skills and techniques of the game.
