  • First sporting success? Captaining the school team to the scottish schools championship when I was in 5th year.

Finest sporting moment? Captaining Su Ragazzi when we won the Scottish cup in 2011 for the 3rd year in a row. Especially as we were the definite underdogs this time round, having had a lot of personnel changes from the year before.

Your tip for the top: Success isn't a right you earn from talent. You have to work hard and have a single focus on your goal.

First international / ‘big time’ call-up: May 2001 at the Spring Cup in Slovenia was when I earned my first international cap against Bosnia, although I had played for Scotland a number of times beforehand in unofficial international matches.

How do you feel when you know you are representing your team / country? Immense pride, but also a satisfaction in knowing that the hard work and hours in the gym have all paid off. It’s a great honour, there aren't many feelings that can top it.

How and why did you get involved in your sport? I played everything at school. Badminton, basketball, volleyball and pretty much anything else I could. I wasn't particularly great at any of them though. Then I was offered the chance to have a week off school to attend and volleyball training camp, which was being run by the national team coach, so of course I jumped at the chance. It was during that week that I realised I had a talent for volleyball, and the rest, as they say is history.

What is your favourite moment in the history of sport? Glasgow Rangers winning 9 in row!

Who has been the biggest influence on your sporting career? My parents for the hours spent running me to training and matches when I was younger.

Any family connections to sport? My brother and sister both play for the same club as me.

Who has been your toughest opponent and why? Any time we play England its always really tough, for obvious reasons. There is always that little bit more edge to the game, and tensions run high. Thankfully the last time we played them we won!

  • Three words that describe you:  Driven, confident, relaxed

Who would you most like to meet? Noel Gallagher

What is your most prized possession? My 2 girls, Millie and Sophie

What is your biggest passion away from sport? Having fun with my family, and music. In that order.

Favourite sport(s) other than your own? Football, although I would happily watch any sport. Except cricket, is that even a real sport??

Top tips to relax? I'm not the best person to ask this, because I'm generally very relaxed anyway and don't need to do anything in order to shut off. But if you can find something to immerse yourself in, like a movie or music, then that will help. Plus I also feel quite relaxed when I go for a run, or any kind of workout.

What is your ultimate ambition? One day I will own a Ferrari!!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time? Probably in a wheelchair! As a manager in my work. Proud dad of 2 sporty girls, and owner of a property empire!
